Types of Prayers You Can Make

Your Secret Weapon Against Covid: Prayer And Meditation

Serenity prayer – The Serenity Prayer is one that will surely give you comfort during the pandemic, whether you are sick or not. It helps you let go of any situation that you can’t handle and take charge of matters within your control. Below is a quoted version of the same, composed by Niebuhr composed in 1932–33:

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change what I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

Prayer for strength and protection – Psalms 46: 1, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her; she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.”

Prayer for healing – Psalm 103:2-3,Bless the Lord O my soul and forget not all His benefits; Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases.”

Prayer for health – Isaiah 38:16, “O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these is the life of my spirit; restore me to health and let me live!”

Prayer to overcome depression and anxiety – Deuteronomy 31:8, “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Prayer for wisdom, strength, courage, hope, love, and faith– Psalm 27:1, “The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?”

Prayer for protection of self or another person – Psalms 57:1, “Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.”

Prayer of thanksgiving – Philippians 4:6-7, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Prayer for the forgiveness of sins – 2 Chronicle 7:14 “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

To Meditate Or Not To Meditate?

Your Secret Weapon Against Covid 2022

Your Secret Weapon Against Covid is Meditation, a practice that focuses on observing your own thoughts. There are many different meditative practices, including transcendental meditation, mindfulness meditation, and mantra meditations. All meditations center around the same goal: to observe one’s own thoughts to achieve mental clarity.

Are you asking yourself, “How does meditation work?’ Keep reading to find out more.

To meditate:

  • Sit quietly and relax,
  • Close your eyes,
  • clear your mind,
  •  Imagine looking at a magnifying glass zoomed in on the thoughts running through your head.
  • As you observe these thoughts, try and make a note of how they make you feel emotionally (happy, sad, etc.), physically (energized or lethargic), and mentally (focused or distracted).

This holistic approach is known as mindfulness meditation. Over time, this method of observing one’s thoughts helps to clear them and allows the brain to relax; this can ultimately help individuals focus more and become better problem solvers. However, suppose too much time is spent thinking about the same thing. In that case, it becomes difficult for the brain to focus, so the practice of meditating is important for those interested in mindfulness.

When you feel sad or depressed, you’ll tend to think about how you feel and why you feel this way. As a result, your thoughts become less clear over time and lead to negative thoughts known as rumination. For instance, I feel sad because I lost a close relative due to Covid-19, which makes me question why God let that happen, making me sadder.

Instead of this circular pattern of negative thoughts that lead nowhere (and become increasingly difficult to overcome), it is important to take a holistic approach by focusing on the self and how others can help. It might also be helpful to get out of the house, read a book, or play sports to get out negative thoughts. Once the brain has this fresh perspective, it will lead to positive thoughts.

Meditation is not meant to make you think about anything; it lets go of all thoughts and focuses only on the self. And don’t forget that a prayer a day keeps the doctor away! That could be the medicine you’ve been looking for all this while.
